Hello reader, this is the 1st article we write on this blog to guide anyone who interested Thaton, our local district where located at northernmost in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Hope this information will be useful more or less ☺
There has only 1 route from Chiang Mai to Thaton by Route 1089.
We recommend 3 easily ways to go to the destination
1. Car Rental
2. Public Van (Chiang Mai-Fang)
3. Public Orange Bus (Chiang Mai-Thaton)
1. Car Rental cost start at 600 THB, this way suit for traveller who has driving license and exactly medium-high driving skill on mountain route because the route has only 1 lane which probably found truck or other local cars, most of them drive slowly, so passing other cars and signal-indicating lights skill is necessary.
This way suit for anyone who has flexible plan. Most of public transportation in Chiang Dao - Chai Prakan - Fang - Mae Ai (Thaton) district has limited schedule service.
We recommend to rent a car from reliable car rent service to avoid overcharge or terminate whole sum of deposit unfairly. we recommend car rental brands which has pick-up at airport service(credit card deposit) such as ;

2. Public Van (Chiang Mai-Fang)
Van Ticket Fare is 150 THB, This way is very comfortable and safe for any purpose traveller.
It has 1 stop at Chiang Dao Bus Terminal for resting.this take about 3 hours to arrival at Fang terminal.
and have to walk 800 meter or grab a bike service to Yellow Fang-Thaton Car pick up point (car park near walking lane)ticket fare is around 40-60THB.

** Van take off every 1 hour. you can use this timetable for Fang-Chiang Mai route.
You can tell driver "Pai Tha Ton" = Go Tha Ton (ไปท่าตอน)
if you stay at Khun Mai Baan Suan says "Pai Tha Ton, long tee plai sa paan na soi Kang Sai Moon"
= I need to stop at the entrance of the Soi Kang Sai Moon Temple. (ลงปากซอยวัดแก่งทรายมูล)
when you stop at arrival, you will see our green label near parking and walk around 350 meter to our place.

3. Public Orange Bus (Chiang Mai-Thaton)
Bus ticket fare for one-way is 170 THB (air bus rate). Ticket counter available at Chiang Mai Bus Terminal 1.This way is cheapest way but taking time than the others (about 4 hours from Chiang Mai to Thaton) because bus will catch passenger all the way at least 2-3 times not including resting stop 10 minute at Chiang Dao, so who don't like to spend much time can choose the other way, van which more speed up around 1 hour and detail inform on next part of this page. Btw pros of this way is no any transfer!

Bus from Chiang Mai to Thaton have only 4 rounds, 7.30am ,10.30am, 13.30pm and 15.30pm
these are heading to Thaton (rest of time schedule will stop at Fang Bus Terminal). Bus will stop at land near road (across the bridge to the east). If you stay at our resort you will see our green label near parking and walk around 350 meter to our place.

Buss to Chiang Mai has 2 times, 06.25am(fan bus) and 09.25am(air bus) depart from the same parking land throughout the day stopping at Fang, Chiang Dao and Mae Taeng for catching passenger before eventually arriving at Chiang Mai’s Chang Puak bus terminal.
You can buy a ticket from driver and get in the bus at then.
